The Next Chapter – Mediation Month

From the lovely Wikipedia:

Meditation can be defined as a practice where an individual focuses his or her mind on a particular object, thought or activity to achieve a mentally clear and emotionally calm state.[1] Meditation may be used to reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and pain.[2] It may be done while sitting, repeating a mantra, and closing the eyes in a quiet environment.

Meditation has been practiced since antiquity in numerous religious traditions and beliefs. Since the 19th century, it has spread from its Asian origins to Western cultures where it is commonly practiced in private and business life. Meditation is under psychological, neurological, and cardiovascular research to define its possible health effects.

I actively meditate as a way to connect with my goals; it’s a wonderful visualization tool, as well as a calming agent that helps me gain clarity on my action steps. So, since I’m finding it so beneficial, of course, I’m advocating to my clients that they too incorporate mediation into their lives.

Up to now, I’ve been fairly random with my practice, using a variety of sources and different types of mediations. This year I’m hitching my meditation practice wagon to The Creation Space Meditation offered by Danielle LaPorte (of course).

I’ve integrated it into a morning routine as a means of starting my day with clarity and connection to my deep desires. Since I began, I can indeed feel a difference in how I approach my day. My husband’s truck (our sole source of transportation) stopped dead on Christmas eve over 200 miles from our house. What normally would have sent me into a tailspin of worry was instead met with calm decision making and a healthy dose of gratitude that things weren’t as bad as they could have been (he made it home for Christmas and the repairs were covered under warranty (sigh)).

As it is with all of the techniques, tools, and such I recommend to my clients, I can vouch for the benefits of a regular meditation practice.
